Skyrim: 10 Most Useful Shouts and Where to Learn Them

Unrelenting Force

€œYour Voice is raw power, pushing aside anything - or anyone - who stands in your path.€ FUS (Force), RO (Balance), DAH (Push) Without a doubt, Unrelenting Force is the original and best shout in Skyrim. It€™s the first shout you€™re taught by the Grey Beards at High Hrothgar and it€™s a matter of minutes before its combat potential become apparent. Unrelenting Force is essentially the power to shout a bolt of force that moves almost anything in its path. When you pick up the first word it€™s not so powerful; it€™ll give your foes a pause but not enough to hinder them greatly. It€™s only when you€™ve learned all three words that Unrelenting Force becomes an absolute must in the arsenal of any character regardless of race or class. With FUS only, this shout will only slightly stagger enemies, giving them more of a gentle rock than anything; while the second word RO causes what could be described as a stun. But with the addition of DAH to the phrase, Unrelenting Force turns a room full of nails foes into a cocktail shaker, scattering man, beast and object about the place in a powerful blast of chaos. You can also meditate on this shout with the previously mentioned Paarthurnax to stagger opponents 25% more while also negating 25% of the recoil. Double whammy! Uses: It can turn a room full of tough enemies into ragdolls and they€™ll be immobilized long enough so that you can slice or fire away at your leisure for a while. And let€™s face it, you€™re often facing groups of enemies in Skyrim (after all, who wants to fight the Dragonborn alone?) and using Unrelenting Force is an excellent way to gain a moment of respite while you consider your next move. Perhaps the most entertaining use though is when fighting up high; your shout will fling an enemy for a major burton and it€™s very likely that if you€™re high enough up, the fall will kill them. This could potentially turn a tough fight into child€™s play. But not only that; seeing your enemies thrown about like mere children€™s toys like this by the power inside your character only seems to get more satisfying each time you do it. It€™s my most used shout and I doubt any other comes close in terms of usage figures. Where to Learn: FUS: Bleak Falls Barrow RO: High Hrothgar (during The Way of the Voice) DAH: High Hrothgar (during The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller So there are our top ten Shouts and what a riot it was.
