Skyrim: 16 Best Mods Of All Time

6. Sound - Audio Overhaul For Skyrim

Overhaul is certainly the right word in this case, as this mod aims to change the entire soundtrack of Skyrim from background ambience to weapon clashes.

The Audio Overhaul aims to improve the sound design for all aspects of the game in an effort to make the world feel more realistic. The change is most noticeable in caves, as dependent on how loud NPCs are talking there will now be a noticeable echo radiating throughout the environment.

In addition to that, sound of attacks and spells will reverb back to you at different times depending on how far away you are from the impact zone, i.e. launch a fireball to the other side of the room and you'll hear it later than you would if it hit next to you.

Weapons have been improved, including reverb on swords, a true-to-life arrow launching sound and unique sounds for daggers. Shouts have received a big improvement too, being much more bass-y and feeling more powerful than before.

There aren't many sound effects throughout the game that haven't been changed or touched up in some way, and the attention to detail really shows. There's around 4000 new sounds just for footsteps alone!

Runners Up:

Heart of the Beast - Also a visual modifier, this mod dramatically improves the noises of werewolves, from their howls to the sound they make when tearing an enemy apart.

Sounds of Skyrim - A collection of sound packs for dungeons, cities and the wilderness that make the world feel much more vibrant and alive.

Immersive Music - Adds 16 hours worth of new music to the game, including some tracks from the Witcher series, to give your ears something new to enjoy while slaughtering dragons.
