This reference requires a little backstory dating all the way back to the season one cliffhanger ending, which teased the revelation of the identity of Cartman's father. Season two was all set to resume with the conclusion of that two-parter episode. The date that South Park was set to return to television however was April 1st, or April Fools Day. Trey Parker and Matt Stone essentially thought it would be funny to tease that they were going to air the conclusion episode, but pull a bait and switch come show-time. Instead, they aired an entire episode consisting of Canadian fart icons Terrence and Phillip. Back in 1998 the incident outraged fans of the show to the point where the duo were actually harassed with death threats. That following week business did continue as usual though with the airing of the conclusion episode. Nevertheless, the Terrence and Phillip episode is titled Not Without My Anus, and can be heard in its entirety across various televisions in the neighbourhood. In short, it's simply a reference to a legendary prank.
