South Park: The Stick Of Truth - 12 Reasons It's Awesome

2. Exploring South Park

Easily the most engaging aspect of Stick of Truth is the open world design that essentially forced Trey Parker and Matt Stone to really sit down and think about how their imaginative Colorado-based town flows together as one entity. When drawing up animation for an episode, Trey and Matt don't have to sit around and blueprint the city; if there is a transition between locations, they simply showed one then the other, forgoing the need to connect the two. Having the ability to freely roam around the neighborhood and into the houses of beloved characters is nothing short of fascinating in itself. It's a wondrous experience simply exploring and finding out the most arbitrary things such as Cartman lives next to Butters, or how the shopping district is arranged. The fact that every building in the game can be entered is just icing on the cake. And while it's clearly obvious that this is a scaled-down version of the town with some notable landmarks missing, what is present does a phenomenal job at actually bringing everybody's favourite 'quiet little mountain town' to life.
