Spider-Man 2 - 10 Essential Fan Demands It Must Include

6. Cameos From The Wider Marvel Universe

Spider-Man PS4 was littered with references to the wider Marvel universe, and it got fans talking. Here was an established universe complete with the Avengers, Daredevil and dozens more heroes and villains; one with the potential to become just as rich as the one Rocksteady fashioned during their stint on Batman: Arkham.

In the months since Spider-Man's release Marvel have taken to calling this new continuity the 'Marvel Gamerverse'. No, it doesn't quite roll off the tongue as well as the MCU, but it's a start, and provides encouragement for fans hoping that they'd get to see more to this mythos in the years ahead.

The introduction of Marvel's Avengers is also something to consider. The game isn't confirmed to take place in the same continuity as Spider-Man's, but it makes too much sense for it not to. That means there's a possibility we could get references to Spidey in Square's title, but even if we don't, Insomniac should still try and further integrate the wall-crawler into their new mythos.

Have Spidey link up with Daredevil, the Fantastic Four, and maybe even throw a nod or two in the X-Men's direction. It all goes some way in making the universe feel just that little more epic, and with the old adage of sequels usually being bigger and better, is it really something Insomniac can afford to miss?

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
