Spider-Cat aside, Miles Morales' true sidekick in the game is his best friend, Ganke Lee. A character from the comics, and the basis for "Ned" in the Spider-Man movies, he looks set to be crucial to the hero's adventures in this game, as the creator of the "Friendly Neighbourhood Spider App."

Replacing Peter Parker's police scanner, it's going to streamline how players access missions, meaning there's no longer any need to enter the main menu to track them down.

Connecting all crimes and activities reported, swiping left on the PlayStation 5's DualSense controller will bring up Miles' cell phone, slowing the action down on screen (a mixture, in some respects, of switching between characters and using the phone in Grand Theft Auto V).

Hitting "L1" or "R1" allows you to switch between crimes and other missions, and once one is selected, the wall-crawler will be pointed in the right direction. It's a neat way to update how that mechanic works, and one that arguably suits Miles well. However, common says Peter Parker will be borrowing it in the eventual sequel to the first game.
