The first time you boot your PS5 up, load a save in Miles Morales and go from main menu to the fully playable open-world in literally two seconds, that's when the power of next-gen tech kicks in.

How much third-party devs can take advantage of this stuff when developing for multiple systems remains to be seen, but for platform exclusives? There's no holding back.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales was clearly built with the PS5 in mind, and the system's new "Cards" UI means you can leap into unfinished challenges, side missions and more using the PS button in-game, or from the dashboard. After a few moments you'll be dropping into as many challenges in a row as possible, forgetting loading altogether as you hoover up collectibles, unlock abilities and chase that 100% platinum trophy.

Combat scenarios also see a notable uptick in sheer geography. Where until this point in gaming we'd expect a loading screen when going from outdoors to in and back again, the PS5 has Miles duel foes on rooftops, smash them through walls and windows, continue brawling inside and then journey back out again.

Both these tenets of the game's design are quality of life improvements you didn't know you needed, and they make all the difference.
