Spider-Man PS4: 10 Problems The Sequel MUST Fix
The game broke sales records, but there is always room for improvement.
2018 saw the video game industry bombarded by high quality offerings, particularly by Playstation exclusive titles such as Horizon: Zero Dawn and God of War. While the latter title would come out on top during awards season, it was Insomniac’s take on everyone’s friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man that broke multiple sales records for Sony.
Insomniac clearly spent a lot of time ensuring the game was respectful to the source material, giving players a highly polished experience. However, the developers weren’t afraid to add their unique spin on the beloved character. The level of detail in the characters, city and hidden easter eggs is something truly special, with fans still uncovering secrets to this day.
Some fans have gone as far to describe the storyline as one of Spider-Man's best narratives, even across his comic and film appearances. Now, fans are wondering how the developers can possibly top the first instalment. But, as good as the game is, there is always room for improvement.
Amongst the praise are incredibly valid complaints and issues players have with the game. With all that in mind, let’s look at some of the low points of this spectacular Spider-Man game that Insomniac need to fix in the sequel.
10. Screwball
In
a game that had so many different challenges, random encounters and
mini-games, the last thing it needed was to add more. Neither did the
game need to include one of the most annoying characters in recent
Marvel history. Yet unfortunately, that is exactly what we got when
Insomniac threw Screwball into the mix.
Not only is the character incredibly irritating throughout her time in the game, she isn’t even a beloved character in the source material. Designed as a parody of internet celebrities, her over-the-top personality traits have been an unwelcome addition to Spidey’s rogue’s gallery.
The character features heavily in the City Never Sleeps DLC as well as the main storyline, yet her inclusion adds very little to the experience. Many of the challenges set by Screwball are similar, if not the same as other side missions and it’s not as if her antics are crucial to the storyline.
With any luck, the small-time villain won’t make a return in the next game. Let’s just hope they don’t replace her with another, equally annoying character like Boomerang or Gwenpool instead.
