Spider-Man PS4: 5 Things It Did Better Than The Arkham Series (And 5 Things It Did Worse)
8. Traversal
Nothing compares to how excellent it feels to swing between the skyscrapers of Manhattan. Insomniac Games created an easy to learn web-slinging mechanic which is immensely rewarding when mastered. The awesome score kicks in interactively when you launch off towards your destinations. Pair that with interactive locations to shoot Spidey through, show off with a few backflips, and you are guaranteed to have a massive grin on your face.
Moving around Spider-Man’s map is one of those things in video games you will find yourself coming back to time and time again just to have some fun with, and because of its addictiveness, will struggle to put down.
This isn’t to say that the Arkham Series does a bad job though. Rocksteady and WB Montreal really do allow you to “Be the Batman”. Part of that is down to the exceptional traversal in their games. Batman obviously can’t fly so using his cape to glide is the main way of traversing the various maps.
Also in his arsenal is the mighty “Grapnel-gun” which flings you to the nearest rooftops and gargoyles. If none of that is to your taste you can always drive the Batmobile in Arkham Knight! The traversal in the Arkham Series is genuinely perfect, but the thrill of swinging through the streets of New York is second to none.
