Spider-Man PS4: 5 Things It Did Better Than The Arkham Series (And 5 Things It Did Worse)
6. Story
The stories across all of the Arkham games are fantastic, each for their own reasons. For example, Arkham Asylum takes inspiration from Grant Morrison’s graphic novel of similar name and does a brilliant job adapting it into a video game. Arkham Knight takes aspects of the Knightfall story-arc and even has a “Knightfall” ending of its own.
Spider-Man’s story, however, is spectacular. It is filled with familiar characters that you can interact with, as both Spider-Man and Peter Parker. The ability to play as both of his identities brings a personal touch to the story and adds extra dimensions to his character.
Peter’s arc with Doctor Octavius is a refreshing take on established lore, which is dealt with as much loving attention to detail as his arc with Aunt May. The inclusion of Miles Morales and Mary Jane as playable characters is also genius, giving different perspectives to the overarching story.
Spider-Man’s story is a tightly knit fluid one which moves from beat to beat with expertly placed comedy and tragedy. It is a story that grips you and makes you want to keep on playing even if the gameplay wasn't as good as it already is.
The Arkham Series is not lacking in the story department by any means, but Spider-Man’s is so tight that it just steals the win.
