Spider-Man PS4: 7 Combat Tips To Help You Dominate Each Encounter

5. Easily Nullify Shield Enemies With A Web Bomb

When the game first introduces you to shield enemies, you're told to attack them with square, hit circle to slide through their legs, and use square again to attack them from behind - a "dodge under" move.

But in the thick of combat when the screen is packed with enemies, this can be a fiddly manoeuvre to pull off (if another enemy attacks you mid-move, Spidey will often slide under them instead), and worse, it takes some time, leaving you vulnerable to grenade attacks. Even when you unlock the skill that allows you to yank shields away from enemies, it's too slow and finicky to use when combat is in full swing and things get hectic.

A far easier way to deal with shield enemies is to quickly use a gadget. The game tells you that these foes cannot be attacked from the front, and that's true, but only with fists. With certain gadgets, you can hit them from any angle and it'll work just fine.

The best way to take them down is by using the web bomb. Simply get the shield enemy near a wall or other surface, tap R1, and watch them helplessly stick to it, instantly removing them from the fight.

The concussive blast and suspension matrix are also effective - experiment to see which works best for you.
