Spider-Man PS4: 8 Past Mistakes It Must Avoid

8. Making New York Feel Sterile

Though everyone should be able to appreciate the open worlds of those earlier Spidey titles, by the time Activision were losing their grip on the license, it was evident that open-worlds weren't servicing Spider-Man particularly well.

Spider-Man 2 was great of course - as was Ultimate Spider-Man - but Web of Shadows, Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2 didn't have the most authentic of environments to mess around with. Buildings amounted to little more than giant pieces of cardboard, civilians carried out the same routines and there was little, if anything, that brought players back to Marvel's version of New York.

So far, it looks as though Insomniac have nipped that issue in the bud. Their New York looks stunning, and the sheer diversity in interiors, fast-travel systems (players will get to ride the subway) and civilian interaction is beyond impressive.
