Spider-Man PS4: 8 Past Mistakes It Must Avoid
3. Clunky Combat Mechanics

Though this new Spidey game looks to be heading the lessons of the Arkham series in a positive way, its predecessors didn't apply the theory into practice particularly well. Beenox's first two titles - Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time - played well for the most part, but their attempts to mimic Arkham's stealth mechanics didn't make for a particularly polished product.
With Arkham, combat was always fast, fluid and impactful. When Spider-Man attempted to replicate those mechanics, punches just didn't seem to have consequence, movement was stilted and the character's move-set was never capitalised on. This new title has looked to rectify such issues by making webbing a key focus, but if the fighting itself doesn't match the same intuitiveness of Arkham's free-flow, what's the point?
Both Amazing Spider-Man tie-in games suffered this fate and impeded what could've otherwise been solid entries in Spidey's gaming exploits. Making combat feel genuine, then, should be on the top of Insomniac's to-do list.
