A villain who also turned up in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Mac Gargan - or the Scorpion, as he's known to the supervillain community - is also confirmed to exist in Insomniac's world, thanks to the aforementioned references found in Peter Parker's apartment.
Again, this falls in line with the idea of depicting a Spider-Man deep into his vigilante career. These newspaper clippings all help convey the sense that Spidey's been here, done that, and bought the Spider-suit. In divesting from other, more mainstream interpretations as well - which've all made a point of depicting the character's first encounters with his villains - the PS4 exclusive should prove to be massively refreshing.
Still unknown is whether or not the Scorpion will have a history with J. Jonah, as he famously did the nineties cartoon, but it's great to see him either way.
