4. Peter Wants To Wind Down His Spidey Days

The opening moments from the trailer seemed to confirm what had already been hinted before: that Peter, with Kingpin now behind bars, wants to wind down his responsibilities as Spider-Man.

Bearing in mind we don't know much about Insomniac's interpretation of Lee and Ditko's universe, it's telling that A: Kingpin has had a formative influence on Spider-Man in this world, and B; that Pete's looking to shirk his responsibilities as the wall-crawler once again. It's a thematic device writers new and old have returned to time and again (the first of which came in the seminal 'Spider-Man No More!' arc from 1967), but - far be it from Insomniac to perpetuate a long worn comic cliché - there's enough new in this world to make it feel fresh.

Parker's relationships, even New York as a whole, boast a stark difference to their comic book counterparts this time around, and with Miles looming in the background, it very much feels as though Insomniac will be taking this storyline right to the title's end.

Pete might only be 23, but in Spidey years that's a heck of a long time. Time will tell if he gets the retirement he surely deserves (or not, depending on your perspective), but at least we can see the story starting off with one heck of a bang.
