Spider-Man PS4 Sequel: 10 Things We Want To See
5. A Better-Paced Campaign
Spider-Man is without question one of the most bizarrely-paced AAA games in recent memory.
The first 50-60% of the campaign is great fun but also pretty reserved as far as big cinematic spectacle is concerned, while the bulk of the high-wire set-pieces are back-loaded into the final few hours, with multiple boss fights basically being thrown at the player one after another.
It certainly would've made more sense to spread the bosses and bigger story beats more evenly throughout the base play-time, rather than coast along for hours before sand-blasting the player with an almost exhausting amount of incident and revelation.
It's an odd mistake for Insomniac or really any AAA dev to make, because it's so blindingly obvious when looking at the game foundationally.
Spider-Man 2 would do better to pepper the boss fights more evenly throughout the experience, ensuring there's a constant ebb-and-flow between epic cinematic moments and smaller-scale character development beats.
