Spyro The Dragon: Every Realm Ranked

5. Artisans

Spyro Reignited
Activision

Artisans is a nice introduction to the game (and the franchise as a whole), but it does lack the personality of the other five realms. The dragons all have an artistic flair, whether that be as painters or musicians, but the levels themselves are a bit too basic.

Obviously the introductory levels weren’t going to be the most complex, but even their links to anything to do with artisans is weak. The realm itself is just a sunny little field, and doesn’t offer that much to go on.

Originally, Toys For Bob had planned on modelling the artisan dragons after real live artists such as Andy Warhol and David Bowie. There was even a Bob Ross dragon at one point. Obvious licensing difficulties killed that idea swiftly, but if it had survived it might have dragged the realm up the rankings.

Boss battle Toasty redeems it a little bit, as he's one of the most creative bosses in the Spyro canon. A pity this creativity didn’t translate to the rest of the realm.

All in all, Artisans is a decent enough jumping off point, but it’s a good job Spyro’s realms got more inventive as the game wore on.
