Star Wars: 10 Best Starfighter Games You Need To Play

1. Star Wars: TIE Fighter

TIE Fighter takes everything that X-Wing did right and improves it. Graphics and audio are top-notch, music is taken directly from the films, and cut scenes and voiceovers are brilliant. The collection of Imperial ships you get to play with is vast and the amount of enemies to hunt more so.

On the surface, you're a rookie Imperial pilot assigned to the front lines of the Rebellion. Dig a bit, however, and the story becomes rich with detail, letting you join an elite group of pilots called the Emperor's Hand, test new fighters, take on smugglers, AND work with fan-favourite Grand Admiral Thrawn to root out an Imperial traitor.

In a nuanced bit of storytelling, many of the Imperials during the course of the game truly believe their role is to bring peace and order to the galaxy; this is particularly evident in your dealings with Thrawn. It makes for a thoughtful twist on the usual Rebellion vs Empire mindset.

And then you go back to bearing down on a Rebellion frigate, watching your Assault Gunboat wipe out giant laser cannons.

This game should not be missed by any Star Wars or flight sim fan. Being the 'bad guys' has seldom been so much fun.
