Star Wars Battlefront: 10 Things That Need To Happen

Taking it from pipe dream to every fan's dream.

The gaming sphere is uncharacteristically rife with answered wishes nowadays. In stark contrast to the industry's history of skipping or outright cancelling entirely warranted sequels, Mirror's Edge 2 is on its way despite the profoundly niche status of the original, Valkyria Chronicles is now available on PC, there is finally another good Lord of the Rings game (that'd be Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, for the unaware), and Star Wars: Battlefront (3) is actually a thing. If anyone can just get The Last Guardian to stand up straight for more than eight seconds at a time, there'll be a proper crew of underdogs. Of course, for many, the most promising member of that crew is the long-awaited sequel to one of the most successful franchises of the golden PlayStation 2/Xbox era - finally, a new Star Wars: Battlefront. What's more, it's slated to be a proper instalment and distinctly not some mobile IP cash-in - no small feat given EA's role as publisher. No, with DICE at the helm - a studio best known for the Battlefield series - the new-gen Battlefront has plenty of potential indeed. With only a scant few minutes of in-engine footage floating around, Battlefront is lacking a hard release date. Given the scope of the project, 2016 seems like a safe bet, but Q3 or Q4 2015 isn't unreasonable either. In any case, there's plenty of time to remember what made the first two games great, and to think on what the next torch-bearer needs to bring to the table.

A freelance games writer, you say? Typically battling his current RPG addiction and ceaseless perfectionism? A fan of horror but too big a sissy to play for more than a couple of hours? Spends far too much time on JRPGs and gets way too angry with card games? Well that doesn't sound anything like me.
