Star Wars Battlefront 2: 8 New Features We Can't Wait To Try
7. Expanded Star Card System
Star Wars Battlefront's Star Card system was shallow, but it wasn't irredeemable. Yes, DICE got a little overzealous with its streamlined approach, but it had the right idea.
Unnecessary bloat is a big no-no in gaming (keep that exclusive to MMOs, please), but even so, Star Cards felt far too restrictive in the first game, especially as they were meant to be a freeform alternative to classes, allowing the player to mix and match loadouts to facilitate versatility. The system fell flat on its face because three slots were never enough to make Rebel soldier A feel any different to Rebel Soldier B. It was all just a homogeneous mess.
Now that classes are back, Cards can properly carry out the purpose they were meant for - providing variable buffs, both active and passive, to your kit. It's all-inclusive too, so now vehicles and hero characters get to benefit from relevant boosts.
Concerns regarding Battlefront 2's microtransaction model remain, but as long as cards are attainable at a respectable rate without having to spend additional funds, everything should go swimmingly, right?
