Star Wars Battlefront 2 Campaign Hands-On: 10 Things We Learned
8. Flight/Air Vehicle Controls Are MUCH Better
Someone still needs to have a word with DICE as to why the hell their ship controls are locked to both analogue sticks, but as that's what we're sticking with, at least they've really made it work.
Once everything "clicks" and you understand throttle, yaw, pitch etc. is all done in a reversed manner across both left and right sticks simultaneously, you'll be course-correcting and making effortless 180 degree turns to help out your fellow Imperials. Just think of piloting your ship like a large camera in some random game's photo mode, and you're almost there.
All the dogfighting we were given came from mopping up Rebel fighters amongst the rubble of Death Star 2, in the game's third mission (The Dauntless). This came with effortless mission design that flagged some of your own ships to defend or other points of interest to take out, all without cutscenes and whilst squad and commander chatter continued throughout.
Such an approach to a mission only works if you're able to dart to and fro across a huge expanse of the game world with perfectly reliable controls, and DICE have knocked it out the park.
