Star Wars Battlefront: 9 Big Worries Nobody's Talking About

8. Is The Gameplay Even Varied Enough?

Granted, nobody's going to have a definite answer to such a question until release day rolls around next week, but there's certainly enough already-existing info to suggest that Star Wars Battlefront's gameplay may be a little bit on the stunted side. Yes, the beta may have had many bells and whistles missing (and felt bare because of it) in terms of customisation, but for all intents and purposes, what the millions of participants got first-hand experiences of every fundamental mechanic. The Star Card system may very well provide near-limitless customisation options in the final game, but the potential of such a feature becomes irrelevant if the majority of basic weaponry is non-customisable and essentially identical besides different rates of fire. And besides, if we're to assume that every map is to follow a general linear path like the Walker Assault on Hoth (which is looking increasingly likely), then just how much can jet packs and Personal Shields really change how you approach a static objective that will always require the same tactics? Yes, your opponents can (and probably will) always behave differently in any given match, but when a map is built entirely around repeating the same mission, emergent gameplay becomes severely restricted.
