Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Review - 5 Ups & 3 Downs
2. The Camera Will Literally Get You Killed
Fallen Order's combat is pretty great, but it doesn't take long before it can start to frustrate more than entertain.
When greeted with large groups of enemies, many will try and flank the player and cause them an issue. This would be fine, if it was easy enough to switch between targets quickly and securely, but the game seems reluctant to let you switch to someone directly behind you. It's a bit of a faff, and the lack of clarity over whether or not players should use the 'lock-on' mechanic when dealing with groups of enemies can prove to be a bit of a hindrance too.
Although the occasions where this resulted in death were few and far between, it did make a few of them feel just a little bit unearned on the AI's behalf.
Worse still is that when the player takes on a large group of enemies at once, Fallen Order's more considered approach to combat can quickly devolve into a panicked melee. That may be the point - to shake up the pace of combat - but that didn't always shine through when you're frantically hitting evade and locking on to everyone BUT the enemy you're trying to prioritise.
