Street Fighter: 10 Worst Characters EVER (And Why)
2. Dan
Back in the 1990s, it came to Capcom's attention that one of the characters from SNK's Art of Fighting, Ryo, was a carbon copy of Ryu and Ken. To get back at SNK, Capcom released artwork of Sagat holding a defeated opponent by the head, who looked like Ryo. This opponent was eventually canonized in Street Fighter Alpha as the man who ripped out Sagat's eye, Go. After Sagat killed him, Go's son, Dan entered the Street Fighter tournament to avenge his father.
Basically, Dan only exists as a joke... and his fighting style emphasises this. With his feeble hadouken, stationary shoryuken, and pitiful combos, Dan comes across as a discount Ryu.
Of course, you have to give the Steven Segal look-alike some slack. He may be an atrocious combatant but that's because he's supposed to be. Capcom designed him as an inferior character to parody all the inferior rip-offs Street Fighter inspired. More often that not, gamers choose Dan, not because he's good but to mock their opponent by defeating them with a terrible fighter.
Even though he was supposed to be the worst character in the series, there was never any doubt who would receive the top spot.
