Street Fighter 5: 10 Essential Tips All New Players Need To Know

6. Master Counter-Attacking

As much as it is important to master the attack ranges of your opponent, there will be times, especially online in the heat of battle, when all that goes out of the window. If you find yourself on the receiving end of a combo or special move and get knocked down, a brilliantly-timed counter-attack combo or special move can quickly turn the tide of the fight in your favour, as most opponents online will focus on attack rather than defence. When your opponent knocks you down, they'll already be looking to their next attack, like a Street Fighter chess match. Hit the correct button sequence for a special move as you get up, and you will instantly hit that move as you rise from the floor. There are some awesome details in SFV for recovery that not only include recovery attacks and combos, but just simply rising to your feet. If you're quick with your hands, when you're knocked down you can rise to your feet instantly. Most opponents online won't be expecting it, as if they're not close enough for a recovery attack or combo, they'll be likely timing your rise to your feet to try and hit you with a hadoken, for example. However, hitting "Up" as soon as you hit the ground will catch them off guard and your player will rise to their feet instantly. This can allow you to jump across the screen with an attack that will more than likely catch them off guard. If they're too close to you, it's a perfect opportunity to hit a throw, a combo or a critical art attack if your gauge is full.
