Street Fighter 5 Season 2 Launch: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

9. Anti-Air Attacks

Much of the changes in Street Fighter V are of the technical side, the actual meat of the game. One of it's smallest intricacies has been altered, and promises to make a much more satisfying game.

Jab (or Light Punch), typically the quickest attacks in the game, had previously been one of the strongest anti-air tools for many characters in the game. Slapping a jumping opponent with a light jab would stop their aerial attack in their tracks, setting them back to a neutral position.

While there's nothing really wrong with this, it's not really fun to watch or play, either. Especially if it's the strongest tool you have to stop a jumping attack. So of course, Street Fighter V made that very mistake, not giving some characters any other good anti-air attacks.

In effect, this made opponents all too eager to try and jump in for a high damage combo, as getting hit with a jab can barely be considered a risk.

That's all changed now. Characters such as Alex, Rashid, and Juri, who previously lacked good anti-airs apart from a quick jab, now have stronger anti-air attacks which can even lead into combos, which should make the opponent think twice about trying to single-mindedly jump in.
