Street Fighter 6 DLC: 10 Characters Capcom MUST Add
3. Dan Hibiki
"Dan, Dan, he's our man! If he can't do it, it's only because of his all-encompassing ineptitude!"
No, that chant doesn't really work but let's face it - a terrible chant is the perfect fit for a terrible fighter, and Dan Hibiki has made his name as arguably the worst combatant in fighting game history.
In Street Fighter lore, Dan is a mostly self-taught fighter who briefly learned under the same master as Ryu before being expelled. In practise, this means he fights like Ryu would if the latter had given up on his quest to become the world's greatest martial artist less than a week into his journey.
Dan is ???????? - his projectile attack extinguishes itself almost as soon as it leaves his hands, his spinning kick is hopelessly telegraphed, and his uppercut has less range than Russell Crowe in Les Miserables. (And the award for most outdated reference of the week goes to...)
And yet.
Dan may be an abysmal fighter, but that hasn't stopped him forming a bond with Street Fighter's audience. Fans love his overwhelming positivity in the face of his crushing incompetence, and playing as him is seen as the ultimate sign of mastery - if you can win with Dan online, you are officially great at Street Fighter.
Dan's been a staple of the series for years now, and SF 6 won't feel complete until we see Dan's pink gi and unearned confidence lighting up the roster.
