Streets Of Rage 4 Review: 4 Ups & 3 Downs

3. You Can Play Any Version Of Any Character

If you were stuck in a tight spot in the original game, you can call upon your police pals to launch an attack on all enemies onscreen. Because this tactic required no strategy, the police call was swapped out in the sequel for personalised move-sets that allowed the player to juggle enemies and perform chain combos. However, there were some players who were disappointed by SOR2 since they preferred the instant-kill police car.

Thankfully, SOR4 easily fixes this problem. Not only can you choose as five different characters including new recruits, the cybernetic Maui-wannabe, Floyd, and the electric guitarist, Cherri, you can unlock every version of the main characters throughout the series.

If you want to use that police car while playing as SOR1 Axel, go nuts. If you wished Blaze's combos in this game were the same as in SOR2, you can play as that version. If you want to play as Skate... okay, nobody wants to play as Skate (but the option is there).

As a little bonus, old-school versions of each character have the same retro animations and nostalgic sound effects, too.
