2. Four Player Co-Op

As fun as the series is, Streets of Rage is far more entertaining with two players since you can gang up on enemies, co-ordinate attacks, or focus on different objectives. Sadly, the original games were only limited to two players on-screen. The 1991 Simpsons arcade beat-em-up could manage four players on-screen. The 1992 X-Men arcade brawler could display six players simultaneously.

If you ever wanted to play SOR with more than two players, now's your chance. Not only does SOR4 have four player co-op, you can play with others online (although this is limited to only two players.

In the original games, each player had to be careful of their surroundings since they could hurt each other. (It was the source of many heated arguments between gamers during the 1990s.) You might think this sort of friendly fire would be absolute chaos with four players running around the screen at once.

Thankfully, SOR4 gives the player the option to turn off Friendly Fire so you don't have to worry about indirectly injuring your teammates. If you want the extra challenge and play the game more strategically, you can leave the option on.
