Super Mario: Every Game Ranked From Worst To Best

5. Super Mario Galaxy 2

Mario Feat Copy
Nintendo

Mario Galaxy 2 was everything wonderful about Mario Galaxy, but stripped of all the fannying about and now with a spaceship shaped like the eponymous hero's bonce. It's difficult to couch it in terms more laudatory than that.

Our hero strapped himself back in Yoshi's saddle for the first time since his tropical tour of Isle Delfino in between buffing his fluff as a wispy white cloud, but these charming gimmicks are not the highlights of Mario's second voyage into space. Instead, it is level design to make Le Corbusier cry with envy, and a difficulty curve so pure it could have been pulled from Euclid. Only Nintendo could take one of the best games of all time and make it better. And not for the first time.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
