Super Mario Maker 2 Review: 6 Ups & 3 Downs
Ups...
6. There Is A Story Mode
The first Super Mario Maker seemed to just come out of nowhere, but was a welcome surprise. For the first time (legally) the keys to the Mushroom Kingdom were in the hands of the people and not just Nintendo's designers. However, getting a new entry in the series and not including some kind of story mode, just felt, well, wrong.
The story mode itself isn’t all that complicated, though it is refreshing; this time, the castle needs rebuilding instead of the Princess needing saving.
Playing a number of in-house created levels instead of users' ones is actually a really good way to start off, rather than going in blind. In fact, you could say the story mode is a stealth tutorial for players. And as an added bonus, completing the story will net plays some bonuses for Maker Mode.
