Yes, this might be hinted at or included in other entries, but the sheer fact that unlimited 2D Mario levels created by the community are at the fingertips of any Switch owner is mindblowing. For generations now, Mario in some form or another has been the standard-bearer for platforming (even partying) - so handing over the tools to create to the millions influenced by that has given us an ideal mix of perfect platforming and torturous trials.

Nintendo has come across something special here and it can only get better, or be expanded to its other core franchises such as Zelda or even Super Metroid - and we're already seeing a bit of that with the dungeon builder in the Link's Awakening remake.

Already in the first week, there have been countless creations ranging from the insidious to the downright clever and this is only going to continue. People talk about the forever game and it might be here in Super Mario Maker 2.
