Super Mario Odyssey: Ranking Every Boss Encounter From Worst To Best

9. Madame Broodal

Madame Broodal Mario Odyssey
Nintendo

She may be the matriarch of the Broodal brood, but Madame Broodal is infinitely more interesting than her charges. The rest of the Broodals are two-dimensional, but Madame Broodal has an enjoyably manic design. She seems to be an upper-class woman, complete with over the top makeup and perfectly coiffed hair, with an ample frame which gives her a sense of scale and gravitas.

Madame Broodal is never seen without her beloved golden pet, a Chain Chomp brilliantly named Chain Chompikins. The creature happens to be the key to defeating Madame Broodal, as Mario must bait the Chain Chomp into attacking him and then use Cappy to capture the beast. What follows is an enjoyable tug of war with Madame Broodal as she attempts to stop Chompikins-Mario from escaping from her clutches. This climaxes in a wonderfully slapstick moment where Chompikins pings straight into its owner’s face, causing her to react in a most unladylike manner.

The Madame Broodal fight is a cut above the rest of the Broodal battles thanks to her unhinged design and the fun way of defeating her. The rest of the Broodals are best forgotten, but it would be great to see Madame Broodal again in the future.
