1. The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past

Even those who don't like RPG games will have spent hours playing A Link To The Past gleefully, and while it isn't quite as fondly remembered as the likes of Ocarina Of Time and Majora's Mask, it absolutely deserves to be considered on par with them.

A Link To The Past is easily the best 2D Zelda game, with just the right level of challenge and a hugely immersive, brilliantly rewarding experience that felt huge compared to what the SNES was supposedly limited to in terms of capabilities.

Despite its size, it is a simple and unapologetic game with a fairly incomplex story whose success is in getting you to invest enough in the world to want to save it. It came with a simple control system that made madd appeal inevitable and the colourful, cartoonish style is not only gorgeous, but has aged far better than some of the more supposedly cutting edge approached of other contemporary games.
