Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Every Confirmed Character (And How They've Changed)

64. Inkling

The Inklings come from one of Nintendo's most recent properties, the fabulously fluorescent squid-em-up Splatoon. And ain't they just adorable? The newcomers' playstyle revolves around ink-based attacks, drawn from a limited supply in a cannister strapped to their back. When the ink runs dry, it can be recharged by hammering the B button.

Ink sprayed across the arena makes opponents more susceptible to damage, whilst speeding up the Inklings themselves. Pretty much everything can be painted in funky colours, with each of the eight Inklings - four female and four male - having their own palette. Things could get messy.

65. Ridley

The final character announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is Metroid's nihilistic Space Pirate and all-round meanie Ridley. Fans have been begging for Samus Aran's arch-nemesis to be included in Smash Bros. for ages, the evil dragon having previously featured as a boss in both Brawl and Smash 4.

Standing toe-to-toe with Bowser, Ridley is one of the most massive fighters to appear in the series, so naturally he is slow but powerful. Moves will be familiar to fans of Super Metroid, including a tail-swipe and a charged fireball. Ridley - whose playstyle Masahiro Sakurai described as "cruel" - comes in both regular form and his Meta Ridley look from Metroid Prime. Crikey.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
