The A-Z Of Final Fantasy: Everything You Need To Know

M - Moogles

Moogles are much like Chocobos in that they are a recurring creature from the FF franchise. They prominently feature in FF9 as the means for saving the game but they have also featured in one way or another since FF3. A hybrid between a mole and a bat, Moogles are an indefinite source of cuteness, expressing themselves with their trademark "KUPO!" noise. Unlike Chocobos, Moogles are an inteligent race (at least in FF9) and can speak English (or whatever language you play the game in). Sometimes Moogles are just referenced lightly, such as Lulu's weapons in FF10. Still, they are a long term fixture in the eclectic tapestry of the FF series.

N - Nobuo Uematsu

The man the legend. The greatest composer the video games industry has ever known? Very likely. Nobuo Uematsu has composed almost all of the music for the FF series. After a brief break from the series (he didn't score FF12 or the FF13 games) he has returned to the series to fully score the MMORPG FF14. Uematsu's music has even seen life outside of the games in two musical projects: Distant Worlds and The Black Mages. The Black Mages are a rock group that exclusively play battle themes from the FF franchise with a heavy, technical rock sound. Uematsu even lends his remarkable keyboard skills to the band, playing piano and organ. Alongside scoring the FF games, Nobuo Uematsu has contributed scores to games such as Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey and The Last Story.

O - Omega Weapon

One of the toughest challenges in FF10, the Omega Weapon is one of many super-bosses that occur throughout the FF series. The Emerald and Ruby weapons from FF7 are also well known examples. These super-bosses are basically challenges for gamers who continue to level up their character after having beaten the final boss. They offer a drastically more difficult challenge and often take a very long time to beat. The Omega Weapon is interesting as it does damage far exceeding the 9999hp limit of the previous FF games. You have to take on the Omega Weapon with characters who have either got their ultimate armour or some serious skills (such as auto-life). Personally I took it on with the Yuna's Aeons and once the Magus Sisters came into play it all went pretty smoothly. What is interesting is that while many games make the final boss the ultimate challenge (even when they let you keep playing...Skyrim!) the FF games always reward the elite and the hardcore gamers by giving them a whole new bar to reach.

P - Phoenix Down

Possibly the most useful item early on in any FF game, Phoenix Down revives knocked out party members. It is only really essential early on as you only get a small amount of HP on revival and later on better items and white magic come along that makes Phoenix Down less essential. Still, it can be used by any character which is an obvious bonus and it is cheap as chips so that is another. You may just find your self with one character left standing after a devastating group attack and I can tell you now, it is almost never the white mage!
