A large environment in need of cleansing from various forces, a hubworld where you can upgrade yourself and the things around you, loot-grinds and incremental stat-watching to ensure you've got the best kit at all times? Yup, it sounds like Destiny, alright. As is becoming increasingly apparent with the sky-high budgets of modern game design, publishers are electing to think of ways to extend their returns. They don't want to put their all into something like a Red Dead Redemption, Skyrim or a Last of Us any more - instead they want 'platforms' for content that can be supplemented and plugged in for months and years to come. This leads to 'Ultimate Editions' later on where everything is then included for 'free', and eventually after however long has passed, you'll get the 'full game', like the version of Arkham Knight you can pick up now. From the missions you'll undertake where choosing a difficulty nets you different coloured rewards, to the enemies dropping loot and the main reward being discovery and seeing what items drop, you can tell Ubisoft are hoping to tap into that same addiction-fuelled vein that Bungie did. Whether or not that's for you though... is a debate for the comments below. Let us know in the comments if you're more excited for The Division, or if these new developments turn you off entirely!
