The Division: 10 Ways You’re Playing It Wrong
9. You're Too Focused On The DPS Stat
Due to the way The Division displays its three main player stats, you'd be forgiven for assuming that they are the be all and end all. While Health and Skill Power are fairly basic and self-explanatory, the third stat is regularly being misunderstood.
The DPS stat relates to the 'damage per second' that you'll be able to inflict with a particular weapon. Since its so graphically emblazoned on nearly everything damage-related in the game, you'd think it's the only way to calculate your weapon effectiveness. The problem is that this is far too generalised and doesn't really account well enough for the different weapon types.
When picking your load-out, look at each weapon's DMG stat instead. This will represent the damage inflicted per bullet/shot and is a more accurate indicator based on different types. For example, the DPS stat may be helpful for an automatic weapon that fires a few rounds per second, but this same stat could be misleading for a shotgun.
It takes a little extra effort, but your weapon load-outs will definitely benefit from the additional research!
