The Division: 3 Ups & 6 Downs From The Beta Playthrough

8. It's Fundamentally Broken As A Single Player Game

Across the evolution of Gears of War and every third-person shooter in the 2000s, they cottoned onto the idea that if the player character suffered enough damage and went down, your A.I. buddies should be able to revive you, rather than simply watching yourself bleed out or be swiftly greeted by a restart option. The Division... doesn't realise this, not in a self-imposed 'single-player mode' anyway. If you've not partnered up with anybody and fall to your knees, it's an awkward crawl around on the floor with no way out other than to hold the 'give up' button, or to prey the enemy finishes you off. I even had a moment where my character was down, yet the enemy was just standing there, half-stuck in a nearby car. Eventually I crawled up to the guy as if to say, wheezing, "Please... kill me" and he did, but until then, it was a shining example of why The Division's gameplay has a fundamental flaw when going solo.
