The Division Reviews: 8 Early Reactions You Need To Know
7. Microtransactions DO Exist, Just Not In-Game
Ubisoft have hummed and harred around the inclusion of microtransactions for months now. First they claimed they were happy to allow players who don't have time to grind a workaround, the option to pay to advance a character, only for newer interviews to mention they'd been scrapped altogether. Basically, you could tell Ubi's higher-ups were struggling for a way to phrase the inclusion of microtransactions, without calling them as such. Now that the game's out, they've essentially gotten around their own terminology, because you can purchase additional cosmetic items, but from an external storefront like PS Store or Xbox Live. This sidesteps the assumption of microtransactions being a part of the game itself, yet still has items such as the "US Marines Outfit Pack" or "Military Specialists Outfit Pack" available on the UK stores for £3.99. Whether stat-boosts get rolled out later down the line is probably inevitable, but for now it's all entirely cosmetic.
