The Division Vs. Destiny: What's The Best Shooter Of 2016?

7. Feel Of Gunplay & Combat

The very reason Destiny managed to have any legs at all was down to Bungie's unbelievably perfect first-person shooting skills. Coming off the back of producing one of the most important and finest FPS's all time in Halo, Destiny had a healthy mix of satisfying trigger-pulls and devastating superpowers. Contrastingly, The Division initially feels incredibly basic at first glance. Your repertoire consists of shooting, taking cover, mantling over objects, deploying abilities, using items and firing off the occasional melee attack - that's it. There aren't any stealth attacks or things like taking human shields or finishing off grounded enemies; it's a stripped-back take on the genre that puts the emphasis on playing a game of angles instead. Cover is essential, tactics like throwing a turret out front and flanking enemies will save your skin every time, and it's when you start hanging back, picking off headshots and grouping goons together to finish them off with explosives, that it really comes into its own. That said, for this point it's all about letting you get into that state of flow with a game where the rest of the world melts away, and for that, Destiny holds together better. It's a testament to the fact the average Destiny fan has a playtime of around 500 hours, that they all just want to keep pulling the trigger. I'll get to weapon variety next, but the combination of things you can pull off in unison creates a link between yourself and your character that The Division misses out on, simply due to a smaller pool of movement options. Winner: Destiny
