The Elder Scrolls VI: 10 Things Bethesda Must Include
7. A Wider Set Of Weapons (Spears) & Drop-Attacks
We're getting into far more action-focused stuff here, but you can't deny that - even if they were unlockable and optional - having a drop-attack to leap in on foes wouldn't be a great way to start a battle. If nothing else if gives you more options on the battlefield, potentially kiting foes around a hillock before turning around, leaping off and getting back in the fight.
As you can also see across the hundreds of fan mods out there, we lust for a wider variety of weapons, too.
Not that Skyrim is any slouch in this department whatsoever - it's more about variety in terms of how they change up combat. Spears immediately introduce a ranged element not seen in mod-less TES since Morrowind, and then there's the crowd-management of a chain mace, swing-powering it up to deliver devastating blows whilst goading your enemies to strike first.
As it stands - and again this ties into the overall sensation of melee combat in TES - you're either firing from afar with spells and arrows, or you're up close with blades, axes or hammers.
All of which is more than enjoyable, but it's not perfect. Not yet.
