You can't beat the unabashed freneticism of trying to group-prepare a meal in Overcooked, or the solid sense of unity if you overcome the entirety of Gears 4's Horde mode, but for a game that managed to capture the hearts and minds of the world this year purely because of how accessible and downright fun its multiplayer component was, that's Overwatch in every respect.

Each character being completely different and enjoyable distinct thanks to the game shedding loadouts and giving you only a handful of powers per hero, immediately you'll identify a favourite or two, and that's before you get stuck into the Loot Box-producing reward system.

A 'Consecutive Game' bonus? Yes, please!

Rainbow Six: Siege has come a long way by introducing a ton of content, Battlefield 1 is more of the same large-scale, 'die, respawn, die again' combat and Titanfall 2 is exemplary but let down by a lack of great gameplay modes, all leaving Overwatch to positively dominate through the variety inherent in its characters alone.
