The Game Awards 2018 Nominations: 4 Ups & 6 Downs
5. Too Many Nominations For Assassin's Creed & Spider-Man

This might be an unpopular pair of opinions, but did Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Spider-Man really deserve so much love here?
They're both solid games, no question, but with Odyssey basically playing the series' hits and Spider-Man forcing players through some horrible stealth sections, to say nothing of its fairly formulaic open world, can either really be considered Game of the Year-worthy?
Spider-Man ended up landing seven nominations in total, and though most of its technical nods are pretty tough to argue with, the game just doesn't feel quite well-crafted enough to be standing next to God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2.
Voters were a little more restrained with Odyssey, giving it just three nominations in all, but again, why is a fairly by-the-numbers if well-executed open-world game talked about in the same breath as some of the most innovative and creative titles of the current generation?
