The Last Of Us Part 2: 10 Biggest WTF Moments

8. The 'Pillars'

It's very hard not to be unnerved by the 'Pillars', a mysterious place first alluded to in the game's final chapter.

In the climatic moments of the game, Ellie stumbles across a crew known as the Rattlers: denizens of Santa Barbara who chain up infected for protection, force the local people into slavery and - if they really don't like someone - string them up on a beach on a pillar, leaving them there to die.

Ellie, badly wounded, arrives at the beach and finds these pillars, each of them with a barely alive or dead person strapped to them.

Even more shockingly, she finds both Abby, who she's on a mission to kill, and Lev, Abby's friend, both strung up, left to die. Both of them look much the worse for wear. They've clearly went through a massive ordeal because of the Rattlers, and it's extremely unnerving to see the usually quite strong Abby look so broken.

The world of the Last of Us is a screwed up one (and we knew that already), but this pillars section just goes to show that humans can always sink to new types of depravity in the worst situations.
