The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild: 12 Critical Reactions You Need To Know

7. Traditional Dungeons Are Gone (And That's Mostly OK)

Nintendo
"Breath of the Wild won’t offer that traditional Zelda feeling that you’re powering through dungeons that escalate in scale and complexity as you go, which may make some fans wistful, but this new Zelda has dungeons that feel plenty complex on their own. No hookshots or spinners necessary." - Kotaku
"While this new take on Hyrule is crawling with dungeons and full of treasure chests, the dungeons lack the same kind of reward loop that proved so deeply satisfying in every other Zelda game." - Polygon

Perhaps in an attempt to broaden the game's appeal (which nevertheless seems somewhat opposed to its apparent difficulty), traditional Zelda dungeons are nowhere to be seen, with a new, some might say "dumbed down" approach that critics nevertheless concede is still ludicrously entertaining.

It'll probably frustrate the purists somewhat, but Nintendo has thankfully come up with an interesting compromise for those seeking a more provocative challenge...
