The Legend Of Zelda: Link's Awakening Remake - 10 Things We Can't Wait To See
1. The Glorious Soundtrack
When it comes to the game’s music, Nintendo developers were once again fighting against the limitations of the Game Boy. Yet again, they managed to create something impressive within those limitations. This in spite of the hand held’s tiny, tinny speaker. Check out “sword search” a funky reworking of the main Legend of Zelda theme.
It’s just one of 70 individual tracks that make up the game’s soundtrack - many more than the series had attempted in its previous home console efforts. Of course the game’s plot involves collecting musical instruments which might explain why Nintendo went to unusual lengths to get the music right. They assigned three composers to the task, including Minako Hamano, composer of the Metroid series’ atmospheric scores.
Few Game Boy games came close to what Nintendo achieved with this soundtrack. The music conveyed atmosphere and emotion where the charming but primitive graphics fell short. In particular, The Ballad Of The Wind Fish still packs an emotional wallop.
Hearing these tunes expanded from the Game Boy’s bleepy, bloopy sound chip and given rich, full arrangements will no doubt provide multiple spine tingling moments for gamers familiar with the originals.
