1. The Gameplay
Back when people first got to see gameplay and got their hands on tech demos of the game, there was a lot of concern about it's reliance on Quick Time Events, and that the combat mechanics felt laboured and slow. While QTEs play a part in the overall gameplay of The Order: 1886, it can't be said that the game relies on them. They're carefully placed and are often only used in key tense moments or as transitional devices. It's not as if there's one every 5 seconds as had been previously made out. And in regards to the combat mechanics - none of the original fears are realised in the final game - it's fluid, feels natural and doesn't fall apart under pressure. The most jaw dropping thing about the game was that there were times we physically couldn't differentiate from cutscenes and active gameplay - sometimes we'd be staring at the screen for 5 or 10 seconds before we realised we were in control of Galahad and the cut-scene had ended. The transitions are really, *really* seamless and this once again lends itself to the 'playing a film' aspect we previously touched on in the article. All in all, it's the gameplay of The Order: 1886 that seals the deal. While people are caught up in a frenzy over campaign length, they're best reminded that quality will always prevail over quantity. Luckily for ReadyAtDawn, and luckily for the Playstation family as a whole; The Order: 1886 delivers on all fronts.
