Niles & The Birth Of The Locust

For most of the Gears of War series, Niles is one of the more elusive characters and one of the oldest by far.

He is one few to be alive Pre-Pendulum Wars as most of the life on Sera was born during the 79 year conflict. His original focus was to cure those with Rustlung, but it didn’t take long for his acts to become far more sinister.

The player never sees Niles in human form, but instead, in Gears 2 & 5 they interact with an A.I Construct that he'd programmed to replicate himself.

This would serve to preserve his 'soul' in some respect, and ensure he can keep experimenting for decades past his death. Niles effectively ran the New Hope facility and the Mount Kadar Secret Laboratory - here is where he would create the Sires, discover Myrrah and create the Locust Horde. Though for many years, even in death as an A.I, he still fought for the Swarm, going against the last humans on Sera and even trying to turn Kait into their new queen.
