The Witcher 3: 20 Characters Ranked From Worst To Best
2. Avallac'h
First introduced as a spectral figure whom Geralt discovers had been providing unclear aid to Ciri, Avallac'h doesn't have the easiest of introductions into the events of The Witcher 3. In fact, for most of Avallac's early exposure in the game it isn't even clear that we're seeing the character.
Forced unfortunately into the deformed husk known as Uma, the elven sage only returns to his real form during the siege of Kaer Morhen. At this time the party of heroes are content that the elf had been a helpful companion to Ciri, but before long his actions and his obsession with Elder Blood have Geralt and his companions questioning those motivations.
By the final act of the story, no one really knows whether Avallac'h can be trusted. On the one hand he's been a useful and powerful ally, but on the other he's often been shady and reserved. His role in the Wild Hunt's invasion is continually unclear, but in the final stages his true worth is demonstrated.
Over the course of the story, Avallac'h's only real goal was to aid Ciri and help her discover more about her own heritage. What some call an obsession with the girl, others call love. Geralt may have clouded feeelings toward the elf for this, but the inability to get a read on Avallac'h is part of what makes him so intriguing.
